Intersection Intervention 2023-

This project began in January, 2023 on the corner of Tate Street and Spring Garden Street in Greensboro, NC. I performed this public intervention every day for at least an hour for 100 days and finished in late April, the whole thing spanning most of the semester. I have since performed the intersection intervention again in Greensboro, Durham, and Charlotte.

I have written thousands of words about this project and its relationship to contemporary art, Fluxus, Situationist International, Black Mountain College, Relational Aesthetics, its counterpoint to the Derive, its roots in world-building and storytelling, and some other things, too. We formalize this by calling it a ritualized intervention in a public space.

The truth is, I do this because it helps me tap into the parts of humanity I value. I like to be of some use. Without much money or influence, this is something I can do.

Catch and Release, 2026

This collaboration with Carson Whitmore was part of Black Mountain College Museum’s {Re}HAPPENING 2026. WE hosted a collaborative sculpture happening, where participants could perform in one of two rules. On the upper deck, they would partially assemble a sculpture and affix it as a lure to a custom-built fishing pole, cast it over the side of the elevated deck, and await their catch. Below deck, one of would use found materials to respond to the lure and complete the sculpture, tugging on the line when done. We wanted to make something that simulated the delightful surprise of receiving a plastic-bubbled trinket from a coin-operated vending machine while also inviting folks to make something with their hands.
